The Most Authentic Sun Moon Lake Black Tea

Taiwanese tea culture began modernizing during the country’s Japanese occupation. The Japanese introduced large-leaf tea species from the Assam Province of India. Because the climate and geographical environment of Sun Moon Lake are similar to those of India’s Assam Province, Yuchi Township has become a hotbed for black tea cultivation.
At its peak in 1939, Yuchi tea fields spanned as many as 3,000 hectares, accounting for 93% of Taiwan's export black tea output and making it the "hometown of Taiwanese black tea.”
Now, there is Assam black tea, Sun Moon Lake native camellia, Taicha No. 8, Taicha No. 18 (Hongyu), and Taicha No. 21 (Red Rhyme). Taicha No. 18, with its unique cinnamon and mint fragrance, is currently the most popular black tea in Sun Moon Lake.
